B&H Developments Suncrest Home

Here is a slideshow that was done for a B&H Developments tour Home. This stunning home is located on Suncrest with a great view of eugene. Converting it to YouTube you loose quite a bit, but in this format more people can view it. This home is currently on the market. Anyone interested can call B&H Developments direct at 541-915-1129.

Baby Bump

Another "Baby Bump" shot. Maternity portraits have been a mainstay for C2 Since the beginning. This particular pose is a favorite of most of the moms that come in. It has a timeless quality that stands the test of time.
After capturing the image I did a little touch up in Photoshop. Starting with my personal B&W treatment. Then a little soft focus to soften the skin.

Black Lace

I thought this was a nice clean shot at the start. I then added a thick black border. The image was then set in a black frame with an alpine white beveled mat.

1930's style lighting

Two soft box lights were used for this image. Decided to kill the back light and blend the clothing into the black backdrop. Added a soft focus filter and tweaked the red channel in the conversion to black and white.

Kylee's Baby

Some girls bring dollies to their photo session. Kylee brought her "baby". 20 pounds of wrinkled fun.

Abstract From ZAP

An abstract image from the On Your Toes & ZAP shoot. The owner wanted some abstract shots that incorporate motion. The lighting in this one worked pretty well.
I remember telling her, that given the stage lighting, getting pictures with blurring was NO PROBLEM! I think of all the environments that I shoot in, stage lighting is the hardest. You can shoot 3200 ISO with an f2.8 lens and still get unintentional blur.
On Your Toes & ZAP have some summer camps going on. I am going to do a studio session with some of the ZAP girls for their fall promos. Should be pretty cool. They are a lot of fun top work with and they are not as self conscious as your average teen girl.
Check out the OYT & ZAPP website for summer classes and fall classes and events http://www.oytdance.com/.

Little Kylee

This is a layered image we did for this girl's family. Looked very nice at 12x18. I went with a fairly heavy hand on the Photoshop treatment.

The Eugene Library

A shot of the Eugene Library at dusk. Pretty cool effect in the clouds. It's not a photoshop trick but a result of the timed exposure.

High Level Photoshop

Always like to see the high level Photoshop videos. I wonder how many hours of work are compressed in the video?

Maternity In Black & White

Here is a maternity shot from the fall. This was done in the studio with 2 lights and a small reflector. The first light was set up camera right at eye level. The second light from camera left at chin level. Reflector camera center right. The left light was set 3 stops below the main. Both lights set behind shoot through umbrellas.

C2 Photography's YouTube Promo

Here is the new 2008 short promo I did for YouTube. I'm not all that thrilled with Youtube's quality but hey, it's free after all.

Portrait Retouching

I have a lot people ask me how I retouch images in Photoshop. My answer is generally, "it depends on the image". The methods and choices are varied. Typically I'll get half way through an explanation when the person that asked the question has their eyes glaze over. Everyone wants a magic solution (three clicks or less). Typically it's far more complicated. Clients sometimes don't understand how much time can go into doing a quality retouch.
Chisty Schuler has some serious skills. Check out her website http://www.christyschuler.com/retouching.swf . Specifically check out her video tutorials. They are great step by step explanations of some common Photoshop techniques.

ZAPP Cadets

The ZAPP Cadets at the end of their dance. These kids are pretty good. They'll be the next crop of ZAPP dancers.
ZAPP does shows all over the place. They have done shows in Disneyland, England, Half Time shows for the Portland Trail Blazers, all kinds of stuff. Great for the kids to get to perform on "the BIG stage".

Junction City Senior

Mad Max the Junction City high School Senior. Just a shot we did for Max's senior session. Again we are using a little selective color to make the picture "pop". Did a lot of nice shots with max. I don't shoot a lot of boys (seem to get many more female clients), and rarely ever shoot in Junction City. It all worked out really well. We found some excellent locations (I will be using again).

Photoshop Layers At Work

multilayered images are becoming more and popular with clients all of the time. Here is an example of a composite image for a Senior this year. It looks deceptively simple. In truth it is composed of 16 layers in Photoshop. While Photoshop makes an image like this far more accessible than traditional dark room technique, It's far from simple to execute well.

Rough Night At The Theater

Talk about at tough shoot! Stage lighting has to be the worst light to shoot in. I shot both the afternoon and evening show, about 1000 images. I tried just about everything to get better exposures, but in the end was done in byu the stage lights. The best I could get was 1/125 @ f2.8 with an ISO of 1600. The color noise is pretty dramatic. Even after cleaning up they still are a little rough for my taste.
Thankfully we are booking an evening appointment to shoot some more promo shots for the studio. I look forward to having control of the lighting.
The performance itself was excellent. On Your Toes School of Dance always puts on a great show. As does their Zap group. Having compared them to several other groups in the area, I would say they're top of the heap. Their website is www.oytdance.com in case you want to check them out.

Selective Color

From a series for this girl's first birthday. She has amazing coloring. I left the base layer untouched and desaturated the rest of the image. I had to recheck my work to make sure I had not bumped the saturation of her eyes. They just really stand out in this image.

Willamette High School's Prom Queen

Here is a multi layered composit of this years prom queen from Willamette high school. The image consists of 14 separate layers. I had it printed at 12x18 and it looked amazing.

Another B&H Developments Inc. Shot

Here is the 2007 Tour Home from B&H Developments. This house was a total stunner. This place was amazing. The house up on Suncrest Drive in Eugene. Super house with a great view. Lots of cool eye candy on the inside too.

These guys are super to work with. I just did some headshots to add to their website.

ZAP Dancers

With the big show this Sunday, I thought I would put up a studio shot from the fall of the ZAP Dancers. These are just a few members of the dance company.
I'll put up some of the performance shots some time next week. I am always a little apprehensive about shooting dance. The stage lighting creates all kinds of problems as does the movement of the performers.

Newborn Shot

Here is a nice example of selective color and soft focus. Took the color photo made a copy layer in Photoshop. Cut the FOX tattoo out of the top layer. Then converted the top layer to black and white. After than I flattened the image and applied my custom soft focus action (global).

B&H Developments

Here is a nice little shot I did for B&H Developments Inc. This is the second project I have shot for them. Currently I am doing the development of their website. I'll post a link next week to showcase the finished product.
